RecruitTECH – Technology is only the enabler, relationships still matter in recruitment

recruitechLast week I attended the RecruitTECH  conference as both a delegate and a speaker and what a terrific conference it was. The brain child of Clayton Wehner, founder of Capital Jobs a niche job site for ACT based jobs, Clayton pulled together a collection of highly regarded passionate and knowledgeable speakers on technology related recruitment subjects.

These speakers were some of Australia’s thought leaders in the recruitment technology space, including;

Not sure how I made the grade, but delighted to be included! While I spoke on Niche Job Site for Quality other presentations included Social Media: Friend of Foe in the Workplace, Trends in Recruitment Advertising, How to Create a World Class Careers Portal, Blogging and Recruitment as well as many other great subjects.  Many of these presentations can be found on slideshare by typing in RecruitTECH.

Although a conference about recruitment and technology, the flavor of the speaker themes from the conference were very much on the topics of relationships, communities, trust, relevant content, choice and adaptability.

The key take aways being that the rules of have changed. Employers no longer hold the balance of power and they have to adapt and go where the job seekers are offline and online and work dam hard to get their attention.

Technology is the enabler, people and relationships still matter in recruitment.

    Be it email, letter, telephone or voicemail…… one thing will never change – people buy from people and thus a relationship needs to be built to get true value from any communication. Think K-L-T. Know- Like-Trust. Get to know someone, like each other and then from there build trust. Those rules need to be applied for all mediums. So building a strong brand helps of course but REALLY caring about what you do and who you do it with will make a huge difference.

    Hi Warren, I could not agree with you more. Passion, expertise, integrity and caring about what you do to deliver a great service are what matter. This is what builds sustainable relationships. Kelly
